What is Ransomcloud?

Ransomcloud is the name given to a ransomware cyberattack when it targets a cloud environment. With the adoption of massive cloud services by companies, cybercriminals have started to carry out attacks against cloud storage systems.

To carry out a “RansomCloud” attack, the attacker must have access to user credentials in the cloud, proceeding to encrypt the information in this environment, rather than in a local environment.

This type of malware is one of the new threats to SaaS (Software as a Service) environments, and requires similar mitigation strategies as traditional ransomware: User behaviour monitoring, privilege control, two factor authentication and offsite backups.
