What is RaaS?

RaaS is ransomware traded as a service. RaaS (from ransomware as a service) is the natural evolution of one of the most widespread cyberattacks of this era. It consists of selling malicious code packages via the Dark Web that are relatively easy to use for users without advanced technological knowledge.

With mechanics similar to software as a service (SaaS), RaaS offers illegitimate programs that make it possible to perpetrate a ransomware attack. Behind this operation, cybercriminal groups usually market the malware kits and provide technical support to carry out the attack, commercial offers, assessments of third parties that have contracted RaaS, and dashboards…

Once the RaaS has been acquired, the buyer can unleash a ransomware attack and, if successful, take control of a third party’s computers or even servers (companies, individuals, etc.) by encrypting access to them. From then on, he can ask for a ransom or make any other decision.
