More InformationFrequently Asked Questions About Security Assessments
What is the difference between a security assessment and a penetration test?
A security assessment is a broad, structured evaluation of an organization’s overall security posture, covering technical controls, configurations, processes, and governance. A penetration test, by contrast, focuses on simulating attacks to identify exploitable vulnerabilities within specific systems or applications. While a security assessment verifies whether security controls have been properly implemented, a penetration test determines whether those controls can be bypassed.
Is a security assessment required if my organization is ISO 27001 certified?
Maintaining ISO 27001 certification requires organizations to operate an Information Security Management System (ISMS) and perform regular security evaluations. While not every type of technical assessment is mandatory, conducting periodic security assessments helps verify that implemented controls remain effective and that no security gaps have emerged. Many organizations also require technical assessments to satisfy internal governance or contractual obligations.
How long does a complete security assessment take?
The duration of a security assessment depends on the scope of the engagement, the complexity of the environment, and the number of assets being evaluated. A standard technical assessment may take anywhere from several days to a few weeks. At Tarlogic, each engagement is planned according to the client’s specific requirements, ensuring an efficient process without compromising the depth or quality of the analysis.
