What is Adware?

Adware is a piece of malicious software or malware whose function is to display advertisements that provide a financial benefit to its owner.

This software, which can be installed on the operating system as another program or as a browser extension, will continuously display advertisements without its origin being obvious.

The most common infection with adware is usually through freeware downloaded from the Internet, which installs the adware components to monetise the software without notifying the user in most cases.

The infection can also be caused by using a browser with a vulnerability when visiting a disreputable online site.
